“How to get rid of boils on private area? Any home remedies?”
These are common questions that I’ve consulted medical specialist Dr Nuwanthi to help you understand more.
Female Genital Boils: Any Relation To Yeast Infection?
According to Dr Nuwanthi –
Boil on genital is a type of skin infection that starts from the hair follicle or sebaceous gland. Genital boils are also considered as a deep localized skin infection or skin abscess.
Boil is usually associated with pain, swelling around the localized area, fever, and enlargement of the local lymph nodes.
These types of skin infection are caused by staphylococcus bacteria. The boil is usually not contagious, but the bacteria which cause the infection are highly contagious and so does the active boil.
The usual localization of female genital boils is on the labia of the vagina or they generally appear on different areas of the inner thigh region.
One common question from female is whether yeast infections and boils are related.
Unlike boils that are caused by Staphylococcus bacteria, a yeast infection is caused by fungus known as Candida Albicans. While the American Diabetes Association revealed boils are more common in people with uncontrolled diabetes, Health Central further indicated that diabetics are also more prone to getting yeast infections as yeast cells are nourished by extra glucose and tend to overgrow.
Boils on Male Genital – Is it Sexually Transmitted Disease?
The male genital region is dominated by the greatest number of sebaceous glands. These glands can get infected by staphylococcus bacteria due to poor hygiene, says Zocdoc and Victorian Government’s Better Health Channel.
The usual localization of the boil can be on the inner thigh region or on the scrotum or on the shaft of the penis. These boils are usually contagious as the contact with this boil can spread the staphylococcal infection, but boils are not considered to be a sexually transmitted diseases (STD).
Male genital boils occur with similar symptoms as female genital boils: Pain, swelling around the boil, enlargement of local lymph node, especially of the inguinal lymph nodes and fever.
The treatments of male genital boils are similar to the treatment methods of female boils. As it is always said, ‘prevention is better than cure’, always remember to maintain a good hygiene so that you would not get disturbed by these infectious lesions of the skin.

How to Get Rid of Painful Boils on Private Area
According to Dr Nnuwanthi —
Even though boils on private area of male and female is a problem caused by bacteria, the treatment option for a boil is rather simple and easy. The treatment should be started as soon as you see the boil, as this makes the treatment simple and prevent any further complications.
The application of heat is the first choice of boil treatment, which can be done as home remedies. Application of heat means applying heat on the unriped boil. While we can do this by applying a hot towel on the area, some people in Asian countries keep a mildly hot spoon over it to increase the circulation and clearance of pus.
It is important to note that the boil should not be popped or pierced with a needle as this can make things worse rather than healing it. The pus within the boil can be drained when the boil becomes soft and yellowish. At this stage, the drainage of the pus is essential, but, it should be done in a hospital setting under clean and sterilized environment using sterilized equipment.
Topical antibiotics are usually drugs for boils in the private part prescribed by doctors to kill the bacteria. However, topical antibiotics are less effective as this topical antibiotic cannot penetrate the cover of the boil. The more reliable treatment for more severe boil infection is surgical drainage of boil through small incision with systemic antibiotics therapy as a way of prevention.
In addition to Dr Nuwanthi’s technical clarifications above, let’s add on by completing the genital boils treatment options with over the counter boils relief products.
